Procedure to cycle the power on the LFC Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA)

last updated February 9, 2021

What "bad" looks like

The picture below shows the OSA screen when it is in a "bad" state. In this mode the HPF LFC cals will show no flux.

Usually it is appropriate to call George or Connor first. If they tell you to cycle the power on the LFC OSA, then keep reading.

Unlock the Electronic Rack

  1. Locate the Laser Frequency Comb (LFC) electronics rack in front of the HPF Calibration Enclosure in the Spectrograph Room
  2. Locate a green rolling cart to the right of the electronics rack, locate the black plastic tool box on the bottom shelf of this rolling cart.
  3. Unsnap the clear cover of the plastic toolbox and locate the key labeled ‘DRAK’ in the top blue compartment
  4. Using the key, unlock the front door of the electronics cabinet to access the Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA), located at the top of the enclosure.

Turn off the OSA

  1. If the Green ‘Remote’ LED is lit, press the ‘UNDO/LOCAL’ button underneath it to bring the instrument into ‘Local’ Mode. This step may not be necessary. See photo for location
  2. Press the Green lit ‘Power’ button on the lower left of the front panel. Follow the next prompt “Shut Down, Are you sure?” by pressing the ‘Yes’ softkey.

Turn on the OSA

  1. After the OSA has cycled off, turn power back on by again pressing the Green ‘Power’ button. The instrument will require several minutes to run through a 9 step Power-Up process. After it is complete you will see the screen shown below requesting a wavelength calibration.
  2. Press the ‘Cancel’ softkey to cancel the calibration step.

Lock the Electronic Rack

  1. Using the key, lock the front door of the electronics cabinet.
  2. Unsnap the clear cover of the plastic toolbox and store the key labeled ‘DRAK’ in the top-front blue compartment.
