This is the basic procedure of closing the focus loop.

  • Start the DMI pipeline with cycle time of 10 seconds (This should already be running if you are on trajectory).
  • Start the DMI metrology loop (this will set the DMI focus point).

NOTE: The DMI focus point is the distance where the focus will be held if you
activate the DMI metrology loop in the legacy tab. If you need to manually set
this value you do so in the legacy tab by entering a value for Focus then clicking
the set button. This will be the DMI distance we are guiding to in the case that
we are unable to guide on one of the operational wave front sensors and have activated
the DMI metrology loop.

  • RA will center a star on OWFS1 or OWFS2.
  • Null out tip/tilt offsets on the OWFS camera of choice.
  • Check that the X and Y offsets are nulled if not have the camera re-centered.
  • Start and activate the metrology loop on the OWFS camera of choice.

NOTE: By activating the metrology loop on the OWFS camera you are now guiding
focus. This also continuously adjusts the DMI focus set point.

  • At the end of the trajectory or when cancelling a trajectory all guiding loops
will be stopped but the DMI focus set point will still remain until you either
set it manually or close the focus loop on an OWFS camera.
