The plan for 20160321

NOTE: Please don't forget to start recording on Control Desk

Priorities for test are in the order listed in the plan below.

Check out

Remember that GC1 is still not working so do not home probes. Any probe you move will be your active probe for the night unless you reset the move history (see Guide Probe procedures)

Please take a full set of LRS2 cals at the start of the night either before twilight or during stacking.

Twilight

Please take twilight LRS2 exposures that have good flux (more than 10,000 ADU) but not saturated on either LRS2b or LRS2r.

Night time activity

  • No short cuts night.
    • Take time to document and record fully and in best detail any problems
    • Document any problems with any standard procedure:

1) Use Go Next (not manual setups)
2) Use tip-tilt on every target (even if that might slow down TCS)
3) Use kill -6 to stop any process you need to stop
4) Use focus curve on every field

  • Determine the stability of the ACAM during tracks under multiple insertions
    • Choose a trajectory near the start of track in the West near Az 292 preferably with 5 stars in the field but this is not required.
    • Setup on IHMP and guide on GC2. Make sure guide star has exposures longer than 5 seconds but is not saturated3-.
    • Take 3 images with ACAM and GC2 with exposures longer than 5 seconds.
    • measure the star X,Y on the ACAM using iraf. Record the average star X,Y truss temp and tracker X, Y. IMPORTANT: Make sure it is not saturated or use another star in the field.
    • Retract the ACAM mirror
    • Wait 3-5 minutes and insert the ACAM mirror
    • repeat images for the entire track *
    • repeat test for a star near DEC -4.5
  • Determine stability of the LRS2B/R positions on the ACAM
    • Select a star to observe with LRS2B or LRS2R
    • setup on star and start guiding on GC2
    • take exposure with LRS2.
    • display and investigate exposure to determine how GC2 needs to be moved
    • using offset_trajectory ( example syscmd -T 'offset_trajectory(dx_ang=-0.5, dy_ang=0, adjust_probes="true")') move around until spectrum is well centered. NOTE that moving 1 fiber within a bank is about 0.5" in tracker X and moving flux from one bank to the next is about 0.5" in tracker Y.
    • once you are happy with the position of the spectrum, insert the ACAM mirror and take 3 exposures of at least 5 seconds each to get a good centroid.
    • measure the centroids and report the average ACAM X,Y position, and truss temp.
    • repeat at least 5 times with different Az on LRS2B and LRS2R.
  • If you are able to complete this exercise and it is clear please observe several different spetroscopic flux standards near the center of track in both lrs2b and lrs2r. If you do take a standard please take a full set of calibration data at the end of the night as well and report the observations in the night report as well as the RA log. To move quickly from lrs2b to lrs2r use syscmd -T 'offset_trajectory(dx_ang=-101, dy_ang=4, adjust_probes="true")' but you should probably confirm this position with the ACAM.
