Plan for 20160420

Priorities for test are in the order listed in the plan below.

Check out

Remember that GC1 is still not working so do not home probes. Any probe you move will be your active probe for the night unless you reset the move history (see Guide Probe procedures)

Please take a full set of LRS2 and VIRUS cals at the start of the night either before twilight or during stacking.

Twilight

Before Sunset at Az 155 (or Az 0) please take a set of PV images at the following positions:

1) Center (on sphere)
2) lower left corner
3) lower right corner
4) upper right corner
5) upper left corner
6) X = -141, Y = 295, Z = 2.69, rho = -1.937, theta = 1.255579, phi = -0.591061

Please take twilight LRS2 and VIRUS exposures that have good flux (more than 10,000 ADU) but not saturated on either LRS2b, LRS2r, or VIRUS

End of night

Please take a full set of LRS2 and VIRUS cals at the end of the night

Tests

HETDEX like trajectory offsets

Purpose: The purpose of this test is to determine how long it takes to offset from one HETDEX like trajectory to another and how accurately it is done.

Procedure:

  • Select a target 20 minutes before start of track at DEC 50 (chose either E or W depending on which has more stars based on skycat image)
  • Setup on target
  • Guide on ACQ and keep good focus(no guide probe required for this test)
  • 10 minutes after center of track disable corrections on TTC and ACQ and save the following:
    • Note the RA and DEC offsets on TCS gui below hand-paddle
    • Save an ACQ image
    • Save a data dump
  • trajectory offset of + 11570 arcseconds and watching the RA on the TCS display note how long it takes to reach position.

syscmd -T 'offset_trajectory(dra=11570, ddec=0)'

  • save the following:
    • Note any focus corrections needed to get back to best focus
    • Note the RA and DEC offsets on TCS gui below hand-paddle
    • Save an ACQ image
    • Save a data dump

What to note in logs: In the RA log note the files and values before the offset and after the offset.

Repeat the test twice.

Mock Queue observing

Purpose: The purpose of the test is to determine the problems and solutions that may be required for "normal" science operations.

Procedure:

  • Select a target from the LRS2, LRS2temp, or sdssXX catalog (fainter is better)
  • Send target to TCS and note the time
  • Setup on LRS2
  • Save an ACQ image and start continuous saves of the GC2 images
  • Take appropriate length exposure (up to 20 minutes) and note the start time
  • Fill in the night report
  • Note the end of the exposure and move to the other LRS2 setup position
  • Save an ACQ image to document position of target and start continuous saves of the GC2 images
  • Take appropriate length exposure and note the start time
  • Fill in the night report for this exposure

Repeat for the rest of the night. Fill in the night report as if it were a science night.
