Starting Jove

Starting Up Left Desktop

1.) On monitors 0.0 & 0.1 start the TO launcher (Applications > TO launcher) if you have not already.

2.) Start the APC Gui (TO Launcher > Operations > Start APC Gui) if you have not already.

3.) In the TO launcher you will need to start up SCS, SAMS, MARS and HEFI

i.) SCS > Start Gui

ii.) SAMS > Start Server

iii.) MARS-HEFI > Start MARS System (Give this time to load before proceeding)

iv.) MARS-HEFI > Start HEFI

4.) Bring up both mountains' WX GUIs and the Firefox weather profile.

i.) Weather > HET weather Gui

ii.) Weather > Mt. Locke Weather Gui

iii.) Firefox > Weather

Setting Up Right Desktop

1.) On monitors 0.2 & 0.3 start the TO launcher if you have not already

2.) Startup the TCS GUI if you have not already.

4.) Open Control Desk. This is under the Operations tab on the TO launcher. Select Start Control Desk (remote desktop). Since this is a remote desktop, you will need a password to access it. You can get this password from Jim Fowler, Stephen Cooke, or one of the TO's.

5.) Check if Tracker is initialized on the Control Desk (the initComplete button should be light green). If not initialize the Tracker from the TCS GUI Tracker Status tab.

6.) Wait for Tracker initialization to complete.

If any of these steps fail or you have complications, then contact the appropriate personnel for assistance.

PROBLEM SOLVING

System Initialization

  • On the TCS GUI under the legacy tab, home the dome and move the structure to CCAS.

SAMS (Segment Alignment Maintenance System) Initialization

1.) On the SAMS Server GUI, monitor Jove: 0.0 (desktop 1), click on "Set Reference" and then select "Restore Old Reference" on the popup. Click OK.

2.) In the FILE DIALOG pop up, select the appropriate reference file from the choices presented - usually "sam.ref", if not then most recent is usually best. Click OK.

3.) After the (greyed-out) slider turns back to black click the Standby-Operate Slider from Standby to Operate. 4.) The target RSE under the history tab needs to be below 500 to close the loop.

PROBLEM SOLVING

5.) To close the loop: On the SCS GUI click the radio button on the left under Move Authority labeled SAMS. The "POWER" LED under "System Status" should go red immediately and soon the red light will move to "Move Pending" and then to "Moving".

6.) In the SAMS Server window, check that the RSE has come down to within 150 of the TRSE.

7.) If so then, open the loop by changing the SCS Authority radio button on SCS to "none" and moving the Standby-Operate slider from Operate to Standby.

Note: If you have to leave the facility for some reason and the night TO is not there yet, do not leave SAMS in open loop form. Place it on standby with SCS moved to none.

Check Wavescope Focus

1.) In the TCS GUI under the APC status control, turn on the wavescope button which is in the CCAS section.

2.) In the MARS GUI make sure the AOA shutters are open.

3.) Navigate to the wavescope/AOA computer. Turn on the wavescope software.

4.) Under Alignment tab select manual and choose the very last file. Swap between pupil and shutter mode to make sure stacking will be possible that night. If stacking does not look possible, make sure to contact an engineer to adjust the focus from the CCAS tower.

5.) Once you are done exit out of the wavescope software, closing the image windows as well.

6.) Over in APC make sure to turn the wavescope off and in MARS to close the shutter.
